Apple iPhone Launch Day - the aftermath

Posted by Will on Saturday, June 30th, 2007 at 3:20 pm under iPhone

Well, it’s the day after the Apple iPhone launch day and we hope you enjoyed our live streaming webcast of the launch activities from the Apple Store at the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, California. We were having some technical difficulties that took down our broadcast intermittently, and we were not able to upload videos to YouTube like we had anticipated. Regardless, we took plenty of video footage of the launch-day craziness and we have them for you now! Check our YouTube for our video coverage of the Apple iPhone launch. We’ve embedded some of those videos here.

Check out Into iPhone’s coverage of the launch day activities for FOX 11 News in Los Angeles! That’s right, we covered the launch for the press!

Quick recap:

Waiting through the night was fairly eventful - lots of “vagrants,” police, drinking, concerts, games, friendly banter, and kickball!

Waiting through the launch-day morning sucked. So sleepy. So bored.

Lack of sleep caught up with us through midday. Food helped a little. So did all the eye candy.

And then we got interviewed by the FOX 11 Morning News - with Amy Murphy!

The last few hours were excruciating! What does a mixture of exhaustion and eager anticipation feel like? A hangover supplemented by a shot of adrenaline - in other words, it felt like crap.

The closing of the Apple Store was quite exciting! The blacking out of the windows was a nice touch.

We got a boost of energy as the line started to inch forward - everybody was just packing closer together, we weren’t going anywhere (kind of like that car that inches forward at a red light - even though it’s still red).

Opening of the Apple Store was like celebrating New Years Eve - with countdown and all!

Entering the Apple Store made us feel like celebrities - since when do the employees applaude your entrance? Who cares - it felt great!

Sticker shock as we bought two iPhones.

I immediately sold my extra iPhone for $900 to some dude that couldn’t stand the line waiting.

Yoeau and I are still exhausted from the previous day’s activities. I just had 9 hours of sleep, but I still feel exhausted - but I kinda expected that.

iPhone mini-review will be posted today!

UPDATE!!
The mini-review has been posted over at Into iPhone! Head on over and check it out! We’ve also gone ahead and embedded the videos for you to enjoy hassle-free!

Visto joins the iPhone bandwagon; Announces secure corporate email solution

Posted by Dusan on Saturday, June 30th, 2007 at 6:42 am under iPhone

iPhoneWho says an iPhone won’t work for corporations? It may still lack the proper services, but that can change quickly. Now we have the leading provider of mobile email solutions Visto, announcing the corporate email functionality for the Apple iPhone. Announcing doesn’t mean releasing, and the corporate users will have to wait for the late Q3 2007 when Visto will make launch its solution, to enable iPhone users to access Microsoft Exchange and IBM Lotus Domino corporate messaging platforms.

Interested? You can pre-register today and get a free 60-day trial of the Visto Mobile service once available… Full release after the jump.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - Visto, the leading provider of mobile email solutions for business users, today announced the support of corporate email functionality for the Apple iPhone.

Through Visto, iPhone users will be able to experience secure mobile access to current and legacy versions of both Microsoft Exchange and IBM Lotus Domino corporate messaging platforms. Visto will enable access that is easy to implement and administer and will alleviate IT concerns regarding security and reliability.

“The iPhone and other devices to follow will continue to accelerate demand for secure mobile access to corporate data including email, contacts, calendar and other important information sources,” said Brian Bogosian, president, chairman and CEO of Visto. “The unique attributes of the iPhone will generate incremental demand for smart devices and will raise the bar for other phone manufacturers to meet and exceed any user experience enhancements that Apple has made. To be useful to business users, it must easily and securely provide access to corporate email — and that’s where Visto adds value and functionality for end users as they consider the iPhone over BlackBerry, Symbian or Windows Mobile devices as their single converged device to support both their personal and business needs.”

Visto Mobile will directly offer secure and easy-to-use mobile access to corporate and personal email for the iPhone in the United States. Additionally, Visto Mobile offers iPhone users peace of mind by securing their personal information using end-to-end security. For IT departments, this means that they can encrypt and protect sensitive corporate data without making any changes to their existing security infrastructure.

Availability
Visto Mobile for the iPhone will be available in late Q3 2007. iPhone users will be able to take advantage of a free 60-day trial of the Visto Mobile service. For more details and pre-sign up, go to http://www.vistomobile.com/iphone.

Don't try this at home - iPhone taken apart

iPhone taken apart

Want to know the ingredients of Apple’s magic sauce? Sure you do! You can either take your iPhone apart or watch the pros. My suggestions is to follow the latter, as even the pros had some troubles. Anyway, check out iFixIt “iPhone Live Disassembly” gallery. As you can see for yourself, this guy doesn’t actually care much about his warranty. It’s a geek porn, and we love it! :)

LG Prada phone vs Apple iPhone

Posted by Dusan on Saturday, June 30th, 2007 at 5:42 am under iPhone

Check out these two beauties standing one next to the other. It’s hard to pick - Prada or Apple. While the Prada phone is smaller and easier to carry around, iPhone packs more features. Both of them may lack 3G radios, but iPhone has built-in WiFi. Still, I wouldn’t mind owning both of these. :)

Into iPhone counts the final hours to the Apple iPhone launch!

Posted by Will on Friday, June 29th, 2007 at 4:57 pm under iPhone

We’re in the final stretch of the pre-iPhone launch, and time is molasses - all gooey and shapeless, with no real direction or flow. Why is it that time seems to slow as anticipation increases? That question is beyond the scope of this particular blow, but we can’t deny its truth.

Helicopters are flying overhead, non-Apple iPhone line-waiters are crowding the Apple Store’s front door, and Apple employees have started to black-out the windows. The mere act of blacking-out the windows stirred up a frenzy and kicked up the crowd’s mood another notch.

But, we see the goal and it’s completely worth it! Tourists are treating us with celebrity and contempt - all rolled into a ball of sarcastic wit. No matter, we can almost taste the Apple iPhone, and it’s enticing. iPhone, here we come!

Into iPhone's continuing coverage of the Apple iPhone launch event - 3rd St Promenade Apple Store

Posted by Will on Friday, June 29th, 2007 at 1:52 pm under iPhone

Straight from the 3rd Street Promenade Apple Store in Santa Monica, Into iPhone is still bringing you embedded field coverage of the Apple iPhone Launch event - now with 25.8% more live coverag-iness. That was a joke - but we are still bringing you live streaming web video of the goings on at the Apple Store in Santa Monica!

The weather is warming up quite a bit, and we’re making friends. People, again, are really friendly out here - even the tight-lipped Apple employees.

We have some unconfirmed reports of the “my dad knows somebody who knows a guy that works in this store” kind. Apparently, this particular Apple Store is stocking upwards of 450 iPhones. Now, we have no reason to believe this is true, or if it is even possible for this guy to have this information - but we’re comfortable with that number. Given our position in line, we can be pretty sure that we’ll get our maximum allotment of 2 iPhones per person.

We also have some worries regarding the handling of line wait-ers. How will Apple ensure that there won’t be any line-jacking when the friends of people ahead of us in the queue show up and swoop in the line. Again, from a dodgy convo we had with an Apple employee, we have reason to believe that Apple will be rolling out a solution to prevent any line-jacking when they shut down at 2PM.

That’s it for now! Keep checking out live streaming webcast! It will be down momemtarily from time to time as we update the blog (we don’t have the bandwidth to stream and blog at the same time). But log on and get into the chat room - that’s where the action is!

iPlayboy makes iPhone cooler hotter than ever

Posted by Dusan on Friday, June 29th, 2007 at 1:12 pm under iPhone

Guess who wants to be on your iPhone - the good null’ Playboy. It’s funny to see the major brands jumping around Apple’s flagship handset. I agree it looks cool, but someone is about to make it real hot. :)

Anyway, Hugh&Co wants to offer some free content to anyone who buys a phone from Steve&Co. And the content includes Playboy wallpapers, photos, videos, and MP3s customized for the iPhone.

iPlayboy

LOS ANGELES - Steve Jobs has delivered the hardware and now Hugh Hefner has delivered the software. It’s the next best thing to having Playmates on speed dial.

37signals prepares an iPhone optimized Ta-Da list

Posted by Dusan on Friday, June 29th, 2007 at 12:43 pm under iPhone

Developer of the popular project management web-based applications 37signals is working to optimize its widely popular Ta-Da list for the iPhone users. Not that their web-based to-do web app doesn’t work on the iPhone out of the box — they want to optimize it to better fit to the overall iPhone’s UI.

Ta-Da listIt’s obvious that the 37signals guys are Apple fans, with one of them even adding how designing for the iPhone is “like a hybrid of print and web design.” To put it in another way - it’s a “refreshing experience.”

Like it or not, one of the most popular online to-do list solutions is about to hit the iPhone!

It's an iDay and Verizon is begging for some attention

Posted by Dusan on Friday, June 29th, 2007 at 11:21 am under iPhone

Verizon WirelessCheck out this release from Verizon Wireless. Basically, they are saying that their stores will be open until 9:00 p.m. in most markets to “give customers plenty of time to Test Drive the leading wireless company with the most reliable voice and data network.” Sure you do…

iPhone has started selling, and Apple along with its partner in crime - AT&T are the stars of the day. Get over it. Better shut your stores ASAP — no one’s going to enter them anyway today. Get ready for tomorrow…
