First Apple iPhone catastrophe - the horror of a broken iPhone!

Yea, it was bound to happen sooner or later. And with around half a million iPhones out in the wild, it's really not too surprising to already find an iPhone casualty. The poor little iPhone you see above is the result of some not-too-conscientious iPhone owner being to quick on the draw to answer an incoming call. In his haste, the iPhone owner didn't realize that the iPhone-charging cable was still attached - and that it was a bit on the short side. So, like one of those cartoons where the dog, chained to the tree, chasing the cat gets snapped back as he reaches the end of his leash, the iPhone was snatched out of this guy's hand and met the business end of a table's corner. To his horror, Mitchell Smith had the honor of being the first iPhone casualty, just 24 hours into his iPhone experience!
We've seen how durable the iPhone really is, so this sort of injury (especially from table height) warrants a bit of explaining. The iPhone didn't just hit the table's surface, it managed to seek out the table's sharp corner and direct that glass screen right to it. We don't know any high-end device that would could take a hit like that and walk away, much less keep working. The iPhone appears to be working order (aside from the obviously non-functioning multi-touch screen) - which is more testament to the iPhone's toughness!
But, you'll be glad to hear that, through the graces of Apple's wonderful customer service, Mitchell Smith was able to get a brand new iPhone from his local Apple Store! Keep in mind that this incident was 100% his fault, yet the kind folks at Apple found it in their hearts to give him a replacement iPhone. We've had similar experiences with an entire MacBook going dead, due to our clumsiness, and Apple had replaced the unit, free of charge! Apple CS is something else (in a good way).
More pics of the cringe-inducing horror after the break!
