Single iPhone saves thousands of lives in Africa!

Remember Keep a Child Alive’s project to buy an iPhone and auction it on eBay to raise funds? Well, they’ve managed to sell it for $100,000! The buyer also received 2 Jawbone Bluetooth headsets, 2 round-trip domestic plane tickets, 2 VIP passes to the Black Ball, and of course tons of good-will. The “child-helping iPhone” will be personalized with a voice mail greeting from Alicia Keys and presented by the R&B star at the organization’s Black Ball honoring Bono on October 25th in New York City. All in all, with a single bid, the buyer managed to “save thousands of lives in Africa,” according to the NGO.
I find this as a great example of how NGOs can be entrepreneurial too. Keep a Child Alive activists waited in line for 4 days at Apple’s Soho location to purchase the first iPhone, while talking with media and spreading their message across the world — all in order to help others. Nice!
