Apple iPhones experiencing echoing and noisy background

Have you noticed echoes on your iPhone? You're not alone. iPhone Atlas readers have been writing in that people on the receiving end of their calls are hearing echoes - their voices repeating in the background. Apparently, using the included headset, Bluetooth headset, or turning down the volume will alleviate the problem for the receiver - only to cause the caller to hear their own voice in the background. Hanging up and calling back seems to work as well, but who wants to do that? A $600 phone should work like a $600 phone, right? Well, Apple's got your back on this one. Some users that took this problem into Apple have reportedly gotten an echo-free replacement handset.
If you've been experiencing any echoes or unusual background noises, let us know! We'd love to get an idea for how widespread this problem is. As a side note, we should mention that Into iPhone's in-house iPhone does not exhibit any echoing.

Take that thing into an Apple Store, right away! Tell them exactly what you said here. They'll replace it for you.

mine kind of sounds liek it's rattling when someone with a deeper voice is talking… like it's got a blown speaker or something :-\ maybe I should try and get it replaced too

I love the iPhone, HATE the echo. My boyfriend and I hear the echo when we talk to each other (both iPhones). I've tried speaker (worse) and the headset (still echo). It only happens once and a while, but it is annoying. Apple store will replace them?

Take it in. Nothing to lose, new iPhone to gain.

my wife has the same problem with echo. Needless to say we'll be taking it into the store for a replacement shortly. I have had a similar issue on my phone where I could hear an echo of myself. I found that by moving the palm of my hand from the bottom mic/receiver the echo goes away…

It's a relief to know I'm not crazy - will take it in to the store immediately.

My friends have been complaining that they've been hearing themselves echo in the background also! I found out it was because I recently bought a skin and it was covering the mic on the bottom. Removing it solved the problem.
