eBuddy optimized for iPhoneWhen we first mentioned eBuddy as a web-based chat client for the iPhone, the platform had not yet been fully ported to the iPhone. With support for AIM, MSN, and Yahoo, it was a promising client that was only held back by the lack of an iPhone-optimized version. Now, it looks like eBuddy is coming back for another go at the iPhone chat-client market. eBuddy has released their new iPhone web-app for multi-network chatting, in Alpha form.

While other web-apps are going for the integrated iPhone “look,” eBuddy is putting their own twist on the UI. No iPhone-looking icons here, folks. The new interface features tabbed chats and customizable text formats, and will even let you log into multiple chat networks at the same time - eBuddy is really coming back as a feature-monster, even if it is a bit slow on the draw. And, as an Alpha version, the app is still bound to have bugs - like not being able to scroll through all our contacts (that’s a pretty big problem).

In the end, what you get is a sleek, clean interface that’s a joy to use - once it loads. Seriously, using this new client over a WiFi connection was slow enough to make us think twice about trying to use eBuddy over an EDGE connection.

Overall conclusion: pretty to look at and has features coming out the wazoo, but you pay for it with excruciating load-times.
