The Independent has an amusing little story about Mobile Advertising, and more specifically, the efforts of one brewer to combine Mobile Viral Ads, Apps, and the iPhone!

Carling, a well-known beer purveyor in the UK, has created the iPint application for the iPhone - which you can get free on iTunes. Why, you might quite fairly ask? Well, there's a few reasons:

  • it's a neat technology demonstrator (the accelerometer can be used to "hold" your pint if you win the game)
  • it's a cool game (kinda like Curling)
  • just because…..!

"The application was created by Beattie McGuinness Bungay, who worked with the Swedish developers Illusion Labs, and …. is top of the free applications chart on the games section of the new App store and at number two in the iTunes general applications chart…. the iPint is far more engaging and viral than almost any of the advertising you're likely to see this week."

I think we might have to ask our resident iPhone guru, Will, and readers to give this a try if they haven't already, and report if the App really is good fun - at any rate, it's stimulating some low-level subliminal brand loyalty!

To find the App in iTunes Store, just type in iPint. To visit Carling's site, and see a video of it, go here.
