So what do you do when you pull your precious iPhone out of your pocket and see a bunch of shattered/cracked glass where your beautifully smooth multi-touch display used to be? You call Apple Customer Support and find out that they want almost $300 to replace the LCD screen’s glass overlay.
Well, Epic Proportions over at the Something Awful forums wasn’t having any of Apple’s nonsense. Like a true DIY soldier, Epic replaced his broken iPhone’s glass screen (with some clear plastic) all by himself. His broken-glass-screen fix involves a razor blade, some 1/32 inch clear plastic, a dremel (or any other) rotary tool, scissors, permanent marker, and a healthy dose of “anger, spite, and an imagination.” You basically remove your poor, broken iPhone’s shattered glass overlay and replace it with an appropriately sized replacement that you cut out from the 1/32 inch clear plastic.

What you’ll get by following Epic Proportion’s DIY tutorial is a completely functional, ghetto-fabulous iPhone. Instructions include using the permanent marker to create the black sections on the top and bottom of the display, and using glue to secure the new clear plastic cut-out to the iPhone. Head over to Something Awful to get the DIY instructions, should you find yourself in the unfortunate position to need such a resource.
While this isn’t the first shattered glass display that we’ve seen from the iPhone world, it certainly has the funniest outcome. Too bad Epic didn’t get a free replacement from Apple.
Quick tip: we keep our iPhone’s glass screen facing inward, towards our thigh, when we keep it in our pocket - a dented casing is much easier to deal with than a broken glass display. We’re sure Epic would have done well to follow that advice.

What happens when a chew-happy dog gets its hands (paws?) on an iPhone? Well, if your Tyler Hall, then you get a chewed-up iPhone. But, as you can see from the pics, the iPhone held it’s own pretty well - largely due to the iPhone screen protector that seems to have done its job.
Gracie, the dog, managed to inflict a good amount of damage on the plastics of the microphone/speaker housing. Tyler managed to wrest the iPhone away from Gracie before she could do any real damage.

The lesson here? Get yourself an iPhone screen protector. Especially if you have a dog or a little kid running around the vicinity of your precious iPhone.

We love DIY projects, especially when they cost almost nothing, and when you combine that with our love for our iPhone’s video playing prowess, well, you have one damn cool project.
Instructables has posted instructions for making your very own iPhone stand from a simple business card. The iPhone stand lets you place your iPhone on your desk comfortably to watch videos (movies, TV shows, vidcasts, etc.) and slideshows - and you can even let your friends in on the action (if watching movies on a small screen is something you and your friends like).

All it takes is just one business card and a pair of good scissors and a bit of extra time. Head on over to Instructables to get the illustrated instructions.

For some reason, turning back the clock and going to a Black and White color scheme on his homescreen actually makes aranovich’s iPhone pretty cool looking. The monotone homescreen is a nice break from all the coor we have to deal with in our daily lives - and gives his iPhone a retro-cool look.
But, to take things a step further, aranovich though it’d be cool to swap out the little “push pins” in Google Maps with little red-handled daggers. It’s a small detail, but, like the saying goes, “the beauty is in the details.”

This is just hilarious, and the pictures can say much more than my words ever could. Clay replica of the Apple iPhone - some people have too much time on their hands.
Although, the Japanese man who fabricated his own iPhone could tie this guy for shear fanboy-ness.

What better person to be working on our side than W. Bush’s advisor Karl Rove - pictured here looking completely clueless as he uses his iPhone. His penchant for leaking sensitive government information could work to our advantage. Hooray! We’re looking forward to Rove’s leaking of sensitive Apple information.
Wait, could it have actually been Rove who outed undercover Apple operative, The Fake Steve Jobs?

This image was snapped at a DefCon display. What we see here is a set of early iPhone prototype models. These were most likely test-mules used by Apple to develop the various technologies (multi-touch) in the current iPhone.
What better way to develop a cutting-edge device than to disguise it as an old-school PDA?

iPhone hacker extraordinaire NerveGas has done it again. He’s managed to compile and install ssh and sshd2 locally on his iPhone. It’s a baby step, but a step nonetheless. We’re hoping for full native ssh on to hit our iPhones in the near future.
These guys are really tearing up the iPhone, in a good way. Kudos. Head on over to the #iphone-shell team at irc.osx86.hu for more details.

We were just thinking to ourselves how the iPhone is such a beautiful piece of work that we almost want to eat it. The folks at Sugarcat Cakes must have read our minds. Their cake version of the iPhone is a piece of edible art, and ironically, looks too good to eat. Seriously, these guys are really good.
Now we can have our iPhone and eat it too. Wait, what?

We’re betting that you busted out your brand-new iPhone and started tapping away at the multi-touch display with almost no instruction - such is the nature of the incredibly intuitive interface. But, one thing that you may not have known about the iPhone is the camera’s tap-and-hold shot-framing function.
Whereas most other digital cameras will snap the pic when the shutter button is depressed, the iPhone takes a pic upon release of the shutter button (or icon, as the case may be). Similar to the way that most digi-cams focus the shot with a half-press of the shutter button, a tap-and-hold on the iPhone’s shutter icon will focus your pic. Release that shutter icon and the iPhone will snap that perfectly focused shot.
Here’s how you get that perfect iPhone shot:
Tap-and-hold the shutter icon. (Don’t take that finger off the button just yet!)
Frame your shot.
Release the shutter icon.
That’s it! Simple, yet effective. Give it a whirl, and shoot us some feedback!

We’ve been hounding our local Apple Store employees almost everyday to try and get our hands on the hotly anticipated Apple Bluetooth Headset. Wouldn’t you know it? The one day we miss out on our harassing of those poor Apple workers, Apple decides to start filling shelves with the iPhone accessory. Whatever, at least it’s finally here.
The slim and sleek wireless Bluetooth headset claims a standby time of 72 hours, and 5.5 hours of talktime - all for the very Apple-esque price of $129. Online orders will take a couple weeks to get to your door, but you might be able to find one at your local Apple Store.

A thoughtful Flickr user thought it would be a good idea to post some photos of the unboxing ritual - thank you, nomad7674! Check nomad7674’s profile for more unboxing pics.
As we expected, the headset comes with a dual charging iPhone dock.

iPhone Problems, iPhone Pictures, News, iPhone
Reports are coming in of iPhone users experiencing anomalous picture quality from the iPhone’s 2-megapixel camera. iPhone Atlas is reporting that users are sending in complaints of pictures with a greenish tint, resulting in odd skin tones. There are also reports of iPhone camera images showing a reddish center with a surrounding green tint.
The good news is that the “Enhance” function in iPhoto and “Auto-correct” feature in Photoshop will quickly and easily resolve your green-tint problems. The bad news is that the red center and green outer ring are not as easily fixed.

And, to make matters worse, the image anomolies vary from shot to shot - sometimes you see it, other times you get a perfect shot.
How many of you iPhone users out there are experiencing these problems? Give us a holler, we’d love to get an idea of how widespread this problem is.

We’ve all seen the paper iPhone before, but PAG takes it to a whole new (miniature) level. The paper iPhone is accompanied with the complete assortment of iPhone accessories and even the box! All details seem to be accurate, right down to the charging adaptor. Here’s a few more pictures and a video - hit up Paper Art Gadgets for the full gallery of pictures.
